"The Missing Teeth Dilemma : An Orthodontist's Perspective"

Patients with missing teeth come in many varieties and treatment planning these cases can present great difficulty to the clinician. The goal of this presentation is to review fundamental guidelines in diagnosis and treatment planning these cases as well as to present the benefits and disadvantages of different modes of treatment.

  • Congenitally missing premolars: treatment timing and modalities

  • Missing Maxillary anterior teeth

    • Prosthetic replacement vs.Substitution

Moshe Stern, D.D.S., M.S.

Dr. Moshe Stern was born and raised in New York and moved to Maryland in 2000 to attend Ner Israel Rabbinical College, where he received his Master's Degree in Talmudic Law in 2006. While attending rabbinical college, he participated in a dual curriculum program with Towson University where he took his prerequisite classes for dental school. He was then accepted to the University of Maryland Dental School where he graduated at the top of his class, Magna Cum Laude. Upon graduation, Dr. Stern was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU) National Dental Honor Society. Dr. Stern continued at the University of Maryland to complete his orthodontic training where he served as chief resident for the program. During his residency, he completed original research in orthodontic adhesives, earning him a Master's in Biomedical Sciences. Upon graduation, he was invited to join the Dean’s faculty at the university, where he has taught the residents and orthodontic clerks.

Dr. Stern has served on the John Hopkins cleft palate team and has lectured both at the university and at local study clubs. Dr. Stern has traveled across the country to receive additional training in the most contemporary orthodontic techniques. He is a certified provider of Wilkodontics® Accelerated Osteogenic Orthodontics™, Invisalign®, and is trained in the Six Elements of Orofacial Harmony, with additional training in its application to orthognathic surgical planning. The "Six Elements of Orofacial Harmony," pioneered by Dr. Larry Andrews, emphasizes a comprehensive view of the face, teeth, jaws and joints to achieve optimal health, function and facial esthetics. Dr. Stern currently serves as President of the Maimonides Dental Study Club located in Pikesville, Maryland.

Dr. Stern believes in giving back to the community and has participated in a wide range of community service, ranging from the Special Olympics to Quest for Care (dental fund for the indigent). He is an active member of the American Association of Orthodontists, Mid Atlantic Society of Orthodontists, Maryland State Society of Orthodontists, American Dental Association and, most importantly, the Baltimore County Dental Association.
