Course Summary:

Doctor Price will briefly review the principles of dental cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), radiation safety and the medicolegal and ethical obligations of owning CBCT machines. The bulk of the lecture will cover the considerations that dentists need to contemplate when deciding whether to purchase a CBCT machine for use in private practice.

Course attendees should be able to:

  • Describe the clinical procedures that can be improved by the adoption of CBCT
  • Describe how incorporating CBCT into their practice will add value to the practice
  • Outline the main features of dental CBCT units and develop a strategy for which types of machines may be a better fit for a particular practice style
  • Develop a plan for incorporating the principles of radiographic interpretation and report writing using dental CBCT into the practice


 Jeffery B. Price, D.D.S., M.S.

Doctor Price is a Clinical Associate Professor of Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology and Director of Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry and is board certified by the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology. In addition, he is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology at the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Before entering Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology, Doctor Price practiced general and adult restorative dentistry in Hendersonville, North Carolina for 24 years. While in practice, Doctor Price completed the continuum at the L.D. Pankey Institute in Key Biscayne, Florida and attained his Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry as well as Diplomate status in the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. Doctor Price is currently the North American Director for the International Association of Dento-Maxillofacial Radiologists, a Senior Editorial Board Member for the ICOI-sponsored journal, Implant Dentistry and a reviewer for the International Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and other journals.
